Claim your CPD points
Meeting your GenAI CPD requirement is easier than you think this membership year. The new Continuing Professional Development (CPD) standard, Professional Standard 1 (PS 1) comes into effect from 1 October 2026. Amongst other changes introduced to PS 1, Council has designated GenAI as a topic that all Members must spend two hours of CPD on in the 2026/2027 membership year.
This is your practical guide in meeting your two-hour GenAI requirement, reframing what GenAI CPD can look like in four different ways (and recognising that you may already be meeting your GenAI CPD requirement, particularly if you are already experimenting heavily with using GenAI to power up your actuarial abilities!).
If you have missed the detail, while the core principles remain unchanged, there has been a significant redesign and simplification of PS 1 on CPD. For a summary of the changes, here’s a link to the Explanatory Memo .
A significant change is that each Membership Year (1 October – 30 September), the Actuaries Institute’s Council can set a profession-relevant topic on which Members must complete two hours of CPD. For 2026/27, this is GenAI, which is the focus of this article.
CPD’s fundamental purpose is maintaining and developing professional knowledge and skills. Selecting the most appropriate ways to fulfil your GenAI CPD requirement is up to you. Here are some methods that may be relevant for you:
Method 1: Use GenAI!
If you aren’t already, getting hands-on and experimental with GenAI in the workplace is a more than appropriate way to develop your AI skills professionally and contribute to your CPD. Provided you use GenAI in a new way to develop your skills with these tools, this hands-on experience can count towards your two-hour requirement.
Method 2: Attend GenAI Events
To get a head start on your requirement, come along to the GenAI Member Sharing insights session on 20 October 2026 in-person Melbourne or online . This is an interactive member-only discussion session led by Tim Lam (in Melbourne) and Ean Chan (online).
Keep an eye on the What’s on page for future events to help you stay on top of the evolving GenAI landscape, as well as past recordings of Insights or Summit sessions.
Method 3: GenAI-related Articles
A new series of Member GenAI spotlight articles is coming to Actuaries Digital . You will get to hear from a range of actuaries on their GenAI views and use cases. The first of these will be released in November 2026, with a new article every two months.
Method 4: Institute’s AI and Data Science Learning Resource
Not sure where to start? All Members of the Actuaries Institute have access to the AI and Data Science Learning Resource on Canvas.
This platform, which is free for Members to access, is continually updated and is designed to be a ‘one-stop shop’ for information relating to AI and Data Science fields. The resource contains a section devoted to GenAI resources, including a survey which helps to point you to the most appropriate resources for your current GenAI skill level.
Regardless of where you are with GenAI, there has never been a better time to experiment, learn and reimagine what is possible. There are plenty of exciting opportunities to expand your skills and shape the future of actuarial advice!
