Diversity and inclusion

Diversity makes our profession stronger.

The actuarial profession is at its best when every voice is heard. Diverse perspectives lead to better decisions, more innovative solutions, and a profession that truly reflects the community it serves.

The Diversity and Inclusion Working Group (DIWG) supports the Institute in making that a reality – advising Council and championing a culture that doesn't just welcome difference, but celebrates it.

What we mean

Diversity is about our differences – where we come from, what we've experienced, how we think, and who we are.

Equity is about giving everyone a fair chance by removing obstacles and fixing imbalances.

Inclusion is when everyone feels welcome, valued and able to fully participate, no matter who they are.

What we focus on

Aligned with our purpose – Actuaries use data for good – the DIWG works across a number of key themes:

  • Leadership and culture
  • Diversity and inclusion at the Institute
  • Entry to the profession
  • Supporting members in their work
  • Supporting members in difficulty
  • Improving diversity and inclusion in our community

We consider representation across gender identity, age, cultural background, sexual orientation, disability, economic background, location, workplace, area of expertise, career level, language background, and family and caring responsibilities.

Progress matters more than perfection – and every step forward counts.

Diversity and Inclusion Working Group

Diversity and Inclusion Working Group's key objective is to act as an advisory group to Council, to promote a diverse and all-inclusive culture in the profession, which will not only benefit existing members, but will also be key to attracting a broad range of students to the profession.
