International Actuarial Association (IAA) involvement

Australian actuaries play a strong global role in the activities of the  International Actuarial Association (IAA) , the worldwide association of professional actuarial associations which encourages the development of a global profession.

The IAA has Forums, Sections and Working Groups which share ideas on specific topics of interest to actuaries, with the intention to advance the profession globally. Getting involved can give you opportunities to log CPD points.

Join an IAA section

There are six sections , or groups, of the IAA. These groups all commission, create and share content that may be relevant to Actuaries Institute members. By joining, you're able to connect with actuaries from other associations to help share actuarial knowledge and enhance your professional development opportunities.

The six sections are:

  • AFIR-ERM (Actuarial Approach to Financial Risks)
  • ASTIN (Non-Life Insurance)
  • IAAHS (Health)
  • IAALS (Life Insurance)
  • IACA (Consulting)
  • PBSS (Pensions Benefits and Social Security)

A Section membership is open for anyone interested in the annual fee of $160 AUD. Enquire now.

Mutual Recognition Agreements

The Actuaries Institute currently holds mutual recognition agreements with various international actuarial associations. A Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA) enables professional qualifications gained in one country to be mutually recognised in another country, where both parties are signatories to the MRA. For overseas actuaries, this means:

1. Your overseas qualification is mutually recognised in Australia.

2. You can easily become a member and enjoy member benefits.

3. You’ll receive local post-nominals that reflect your expertise.

This also means that Australian qualifications can be mutually recognised overseas.

Asian Actuaries Association

The Actuaries Institute is a participating association of the Asian Actuaries Association, which brings together 12 actuarial associations across Asia and Australia. Its mission is to develop international collaboration in the actuarial field and is a non-political, non-governmental, non-religious and non-profit-making association.
