Why volunteer?

Volunteers are at the heart of the Institute’s work, bringing energy and strength to our content, programs and events. Currently, around 14% of our members are active volunteers. Engaging the diverse, vibrant talent and rich experience of our volunteers results in valuable outcomes for our members, businesses and society at large.

Raise your profile, give back to the profession

Grow your network

If you're a member, you're already part of our network. Volunteering takes you one step further. Make the most of working alongside and learning from other leaders.

Build your brand

Volunteer roles elevate a resume. Show that you’ve not only got key skills; you also have the generosity, foresight and interpersonal communication to pass those skills on to others.

Become a better actuary

Volunteering will expose you to new ideas and people you’d otherwise never meet. Collaboration will add depth to your work while improving your management and communication skills.

Explore new career paths

Volunteering is a great way to gain experience in different practice areas, make new connections and raise your profile. Demonstrating that experience will position you well for your next career move.

Make a difference

As an actuary, you make an impact. But as a volunteer, you can be heard beyond your own organisation and advocate for issues you care about.

Connected knowledge

“I've been able to build a network of my peers across the industry, which means I'm always feeling a little bit more up-to-date with current thinking.”

Practice committees

Develop the profession by joining a Practice Committee. Our influential, proactive committees set the agenda for new content, areas of focus, events and networking that advances the actuarial profession.

Working groups and sub-committees

Share your thoughts, ideas and experiences in working groups or sub-committees. These are formed for specific issues or submissions and do not need long-term commitment from members.

Advocacy and thought leadership

Address issues with profound impacts on social, financial and environmental well-being. Volunteers add their voice to our key submissions to the government and its agencies.

Volunteering is just one of the benefits of membership.

We know our volunteers gain much more than they give. It’s a great benefit of being an Actuaries Institute member.
