Chief Executive Officer

Elayne Grace

Elayne Grace is the Chief Executive of the Actuaries Institute, the professional body representing actuaries in Australia. Elayne’s drive has resulted in key research into aged care, big data, climate change, governance, longevity risk and retirement, mental health, and intergenerational equity. Elayne has 25 years’ international experience with leading consulting firms and major insurers, including as a leader of some of the earliest collaborations between business, scientists and NGOs on climate change and risk. She has provided strategic, economic and financial advice on mergers and acquisitions, valuations, product development, strategy development, international governance and emerging risks. She has been an adviser on a Commonwealth Treasury expert panel and to the Indigenous Land Corporation Board on the long-term sustainability of its investments. She has been recognised in The Australian Financial Review 100 Women of Influence (2019) awards and Voice Project Best Workplace (2021) awards for exceptional levels of employee engagement and satisfaction. Elayne is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (UK).

Executive leadership team

Brad Sherringham, Chief Operating Officer/Chief Finance Officer

Brad leads the finance, operations, risk and membership team at the Actuaries Institute. With a background in directorship, governance, board reporting and compliance, Brad is the founder of The Global Governance Initiative, and was previously General Manager Commercial and CFO at the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Vanessa Beenders, Executive General Manager, Public Policy & Professionalism

Vanessa leads the Institute’s public policy program, sharing the profession’s insights on key societal issues in major reports, papers and submissions. She also oversees support to Practice Committees, and technical and professional support to its members. Previously she worked at Commonwealth Bank, Commonwealth Treasury, Federal Treasurer’s office and the NSW Department of Education.

Fiona MacGillivray, 
Executive General Manager, Marketing & Communications

Fiona leads a team of marketing, content and communications specialists to create value for members, elevate brand actuary, manage education marketing, and inform and profile actuaries via thought leadership and media. With
over 20 years of regional and global experience, Fiona was previously Global Brand, Marketing and Communications Director at EY and the Asia Pacific Marketing and BD Manager at Allens.

Mike Callan, Executive General Manager, Education

Mike educates Australia's future actuaries and supports lifelong learning for our profession in Australia and overseas. As a Doctor of Philosophy and an actuary, Mike spent his earlier career working as an actuary for Halifax, Deloitte, AMP, and a senior lecturer at Monash University.

Alex Scandurra, 
Chief Data and Artificial Intelligence Officer

Alex drives the Institute's data and AI growth, empowering its development and innovation. Alex was previously the Founding Director of FinTech Australia, Founding CEO of Stone & Chalk and Co-Founder of Spark Festival.
