Professionalism and ethics

The actuarial profession is built on a foundation of high technical professional standards and ethical conduct. Continuous Professional Development (CPD) requirements for members include a minimum number of professionalism training hours each year.

Professionalism and ethics in the actuarial profession

The Code of Conduct is the cornerstone of professionalism for actuarial practice.

Actuaries have a responsibility to act in the public interest. By way of example, they must interpret data ethically to advise businesses, communities, and governments in making sound decisions.

They are trusted to remain objective and act without bias.

“It’s this balance between technical expertise and ethical responsibility that defines our profession.”

— Iris Lun, Director and Co-Founder of 10Life

About professionalism training

Each calendar year, our members are expected to earn at least 5 points of professionalism training as part of Professional Standard 1. As a member, your professionalism training is intended to enhance your understanding of an actuary’s professional and ethical obligations. To support you, we provide a wide range of material and practical resources.

If you're a member, you can meet your professionalism requirements with resources, video, events and more, curated by the Professionalism Committee.
