Plenary Organising Committee

Simone Leas, General Manager, Advice & Approvals, Australian Prudential Regulation Authority

Simone Leas is a Fellow of the Actuaries Institute and a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. As General Manager, Advice & Approvals at the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority, Simone draws on more than 25 years of global experience in risk management, compliance, and capital management. She is passionate about realising the value and competitive edge that come from better decision making in organisations and has authored a book on this topic.

Andrew Boal, Partner, Deloitte

Andrew is an experienced leader in the financial services industry with specialised knowledge in superannuation, retirement, investments, insurance and risk management.  He is currently a Partner at Deloitte in its Actuaries & Investment Specialists team, having previously been CEO of Rice Warner and Head of Australasia for Willis Towers Watson. In addition to being a member of the Plenary Organising Committee for the 2026 Actuaries Summit, Andrew is currently a Director on the Council of the Actuaries Institute and Chair of the Public Policy Council Committee. 

Annette King, Non-Executive Director

Annette King is an experienced company director, former CEO and actuary, with over 35 years’ experience in financial services across Asia-Pacific. Prior to becoming a non-executive director, Ms King had a successful track record as a CEO, CFO and CMO of significant financial institutions, as well as being a founder/entrepreneur. Ms King has served large multi-national companies (Swiss Re, AXA, Manulife, Mercer, MLC Super) and fintech companies (AFG, FNZ, Galileo Platforms). Ms King is the Chair of HCF, and serves as a Non-Executive Director on the boards of TAL, AFG and U Ethical Investors.

Andrew Mathews, Principal, Finity Consulting

Andrew is a Principal and Actuary at Finity Consulting and an Associate Professor at Monash Business School as well as a PhD candidate at University of Newcastle. He strives to create the conditions for forging ahead by applying actuarial capabilities to surface facts, explore possibilities and initiate collective actions. Andrew specialises in Health Insurance.

Vanessa Beenders, Executive General Manager, Public Policy & Professionalism

Vanessa leads the Institute’s public policy program, sharing the profession’s insights on key societal issues in major reports, papers and submissions. She also oversees support to Practice Committees, technical and professional support to its members, and the year-round events program. Previously she worked at Commonwealth Bank, Commonwealth Treasury, Federal Treasurer’s office and the NSW Department of Education.

Iain Bulcraig, Chief Risk Officer, SCOR Australia

Iain is an actuary with a passion for storytelling, mentoring and enhancing risk culture. He is currently Chief Risk Officer at SCOR Australia having previously worked as CFO and in SCOR’s Paris office. Iain has over 25 years of life insurance experience across consulting, insurance and reinsurance firms, both in Australia and his native Scotland. Iain is a member of the Risk Management Practice Committee, he mentors a number of actuaries and is a qualified ethics teacher, bringing this learning to primary school children each week.

Evelyn Chow, Head of In-Force Management for APAC, P&C Reinsurance, Swiss Re

Evelyn Chow is the Head of In-Force Management for APAC, P&C Reinsurance, at Swiss Re and is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia. She has provided actuarial services and advice to a wide variety of participants across the general insurance industry including different private and public insurers as well as industry organisations. Her experience spans both domestic and international markets. Evelyn currently also volunteers on the Actuaries Institute's Professional Practice Committee and was the lead author of the Institute's Report on Funding for Flood Costs: Affordability, Availability and Public Policy Options published in August 2023.

Calise Li, Senior Consultant, Finity

Calise is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia with five years of experience at Finity Consulting. She works in a range of general insurance areas including long-tail reserving, pricing, data analytics and climate risk.

Justin McGee Odger, Managing Consultant, Hybrid DNA

Justin is a seasoned leader specialising in data, AI, and alternative investments. He has been recognised with top accolades from The Big Issue, Deloitte, LinkedIn, CSIRO, and Google for his international contributions to innovation. His expertise lies in bridging the gap between traditional actuarial methods and cutting-edge, data-driven solutions, with a passion for communicating these concepts simply in order to drive economic value.

Neekhil Shah, Appointed Actuary, Sureplan Friendly Society

With over 20 years of consulting experience across Australia and the UK, Neekhil specialises in simplifying complex actuarial and financial issues, working closely with Trustees, Superannuation Funds, and financial institutions to develop practical, tailored solutions. As the Appointed Actuary for Sureplan Friendly Society and a peer-reviewing actuary for other Life Insurance Friendly Societies, Neekhil provides strategic advice on navigating low-interest rate environments, transitioning from capital guarantee to unitised products, and optimising investment strategies. I also advise on legacy defined benefit fund closures and conversions, ensuring smooth transitions for all stakeholders.
