Plenary one: The Modern Actuary

The profession got here on the strength of the work actuaries have always done and this session isn't asking you to look past that. It's asking a different one: what does the profession look like as it keeps growing, alongside that work? A panel of actuaries share genuinely different answers, drawn out through real contrast between them, before opening to the floor for your questions. The case this session makes: the profession is expanding, not replacing what came before it.

Plenary two: Ageing Australia, the Flow-on Effect

Australia's ageing population is one of the defining forces of the next few decades and its impact reaches well beyond superannuation. This session looks at what an ageing Australia means for young actuaries across every practice area, including banking, life, health and government, not just those already working in retirement income. With input from the Institute's Aged Care Working Group, it moves past the problem and into practical starting points for what comes next and what to consider.

Plenary three: Whose Judgement is it Anyway?

The work hasn't just changed, it's gotten faster, and speed may quietly be the harder problem. This session asks a genuine, unresolved question: what responsibility do we actually hold day to day when the tools doing the work move quicker than our habit of checking it? It looks honestly at data security, a gap most actuaries were never taught to think about, and at what it takes to apply real judgement in a workflow that no longer naturally gives you time to slow down. AI is where that pressure shows up most right now, but it's the pace of change itself, not any one tool, that's actually being put under the microscope.

Plenary four – Careers, Skills and Social Impact

Actuaries use data for good, and the day closes with the positivity and inspiration we all need in a changing world. Four actuaries, each contributing to society in their own way, talk honestly about the impact the profession can have and the good still ahead of it. Their stories span the many forms that contribution can take, within a career itself, through thought leadership, board positions and committees and through the communities actuaries help build along the way. It's a chance to step back from the day's detail and reconnect with why the work you do matters, closing on exactly the note a day like this should.
