We’re Listening: The Value of Membership

Claim your CPD points

Our recent member survey has provided invaluable insights into what matters most about your Institute membership.

With satisfaction levels rising to an impressive 82% (up from 78% the previous year), your feedback is guiding our efforts to enhance the membership experience in 2025 and beyond.

What you told us: Survey highlights

Your responses painted a clear picture of what makes Institute membership meaningful.

At the heart of these priorities is the professional recognition that comes with your actuarial designation, reinforcing the standing and credibility our community has built over many years.

Beyond this foundation, you've indicated that staying informed through access to quality information and expanding your capabilities through lifelong learning opportunities are fundamental to your ongoing development.

You also highlighted the importance of connection — appreciating our events and conferences, the networking platforms that create meaningful relationships, the specialised guidance relevant to your practice areas and the career support that helps you navigate your professional journey.

Addressing your challenges

The survey revealed several important challenges you face as actuaries in today's evolving landscape:

  • Keeping up with information, industry developments and emerging technologies
  • Increasing public understanding of the actuarial profession's unique contributions
  • The need for lifelong learning offerings that reflect industry changes, particularly in emerging areas such as data science, AI and business strategy

A significant proportion of members also expressed concern about maintaining relevance as actuarial roles continue to diversify beyond traditional domains. This finding reinforces the importance of our strategic focus on enhancing the profession's capabilities across both established and emerging fields of practice.

Turning your insights into action

Based on your feedback, we've launched several key initiatives for 2025 that directly address your priorities and enhance the value of your membership, including the Young Actuaries Program (YAP) Career series.

Introducing the YAP Career Series

Almost 50% of the Institute members are under 35 years of age. To support their career aspirations, we have introduced the Young Actuaries Programme Career Series featuring four sessions planned for 2025. The series focuses on areas including presentation skills, AI and productivity, and having your voice heard at the boardroom table and beyond.

These sessions are being held in-person, through on-site watch parties (where members network and view sessions alongside their peers) and virtually. Check on our What's On page for more information about future sessions.

Our commitment to lifelong learning

Our commitment to professional development continues with three new offerings this year:

Expanded AI and data science opportunities

Artificial intelligence represents a transformative force with both significant potential and challenges for our profession and society.

To help you navigate this evolving landscape, we've developed multiple pathways for skill development. Our Learning Resource offers curated industry content, while specialised events explore topics including algorithm governance, interpretable machine learning and technology applications that improve outcomes.

Following last October's successful launch, AI.Con returns on 25 August 2025 at Illumina Sydney, featuring keynote speaker Jeremy Howard from fast.ai. Early bird registration is currently $450.

The All Actuaries Summit (11-13 June 2025, Hilton Sydney) will also showcase technology-focused sessions among its diverse sessions. This flagship event offers 6 CPD points for participants. Secure your place today via our registration portal.

Thought leadership that aligns with your interests

In 2025, our thought leadership calendar addresses important societal issues through in-depth reports, dialogue papers and research papers.

This year, we will be releasing publications on multiple facets of AI, from ESG to workforce planning, as well as housing, mental health, Help, Guidance and Advice, mortality, the Australian Actuaries Climate Index, and much more. Women Actuaries Connect+

With women representing approximately 40% of our membership and many under the age of 35, our new Women Actuaries Connect+ initiative responds to your feedback about the importance of networking and professional connections.

The "+" in the name reflects our inclusive approach—everyone who supports women's advancement in the profession is welcome to participate and contribute.

The launch event will be held on 26 May, featuring Kresh Wright, Head of Product and Proposition at Zurich, speaking on "From Small Talk to Big Opportunities: The Power of Networking!"  Register now.
