With the maturing of the retirement phase of superannuation, including the requirements of the  Retirement Income Covenant (link: https://treasury.gov.au/policy-topics/superannuation/retirement-framework ), the superannuation and financial advice sectors are assimilating Lifetime Income Stream products into their respective offerings, including through pre-packaged and soft-default structures.

To address concerns around the irrevocable nature of buying a Lifetime Income Stream, the presenter, Adam Butt (and co-author Jim Hennington), has explored the idea of portability of Lifetime Income Streams in an Actuaries Digital article (link: https://www.actuaries.asn.au/research-analysis/portability-for-lifetime-income-streams ). Since the publication of that article, Adam and Jim have drafted and sought and incorporated feedback on a “Prudential Blueprint for an Australian Lifetime-income Transfer Regime”, which provides a framework for discussion of how portability might work in practice.

In this session, Adam will introduce this framework and encourage discussion on the viability/impact of portability and the draft framework.
