About this event

AI is changing the actuarial role, and it's fair to wonder where that leaves you. Maybe the skills that built your career feel less certain now. Maybe you're not sure the path you're on still leads where you thought.

This session answers that question, live. Three actuaries build the case together: what's actually changed, what's grown more valuable, and what that means for your career today and moving forwards.

You won't just listen. Live polls bring your own experience into the room, and you'll leave knowing exactly what to protect and what to do next to help your career growth.

This is our final Career Series session for 2026, and you'll also get a first look at what's coming in 2027 to support your career development.

What you'll takeaway
  • A clear, first-hand picture of how AI has changed actuarial work, built from three real career stories, not theory
  • A confident view of which core actuarial skills matter more, not less, as the role evolves
  • A personal "skills to protect" checklist, built live during the session, to refer to post-event
  • Practical advice for your next 12 months of study, skill-building, or career planning
Who this is for

Whether you're a university student weighing up a career in actuarial science, or a young actuary navigating your next few years of progress in the profession, this session is built for you. No AI expertise is needed. If you've felt uncertain about what AI means for your career, come figure it out with the room, and leave with a clearer, more confident sense of where you fit.

About the Initiative

This event is part of the Actuaries Institute Career Series and the Young Actuaries Program. Throughout the year we offer specialised workshops, designed to assist young actuaries to develop and strengthen their career and leadership skills. Delivered quarterly in person and as watch parties across Sydney, Melbourne and other capital cities as well as virtually, the Career Series sessions pair practical skill-building with genuine networking, so members leave with both new capability and new connections.

Whether you're in-person with our speakers or gathered with peers at a watch party, the experience is the same: 45 minutes of networking and pizza on us, before we move into the formal session together. Virtual attendees join us for the formal session only.
