Why mentoring?
Having a mentor is one of the most valuable and effective development opportunities anyone can pursue. A relationship with a mentor is based on encouragement, constructive feedback, openness, mutual trust, respect, and a willingness to learn and share, and can provide you with the essential knowledge to succeed, both professionally and personally.
How long does the mentoring program run for?
The program runs for 6 months, from April to October 2026. Mentors and mentees may choose to continue their relationship beyond this period, but it would be outside the Institute's formal arrangement.
How much does it cost to participate?
The cost of this program is covered as part of your membership fee.
I'm not based in Australia. Can I still apply?
Yes! The program is open to all members worldwide who meet the participation criteria.
How often should mentors and mentees meet?
We recommend meeting at least once a month for 1-2 hours during the program. You can meet more frequently if both parties agree.
Application process
How do I apply?
- Mentors: Applications are open from November 2025 (close 14 December 2025)
- Mentees: Applications open January 2026
Matching process
How does the new matching process work?
In 2026, we have changed the format to create more purposeful connections. Mentees browse mentor profiles and apply to work with mentors whose expertise matches their goals. Mentors then review applications and select mentees they're excited to guide.
Will mentees and mentors from the same organisation be matched?
No. To maximise learning benefits, mentees are paired with mentors from outside their organisation.
What happens if I don't get matched as a mentor?
If you don't receive any mentee applications or aren't matched during this round we'll keep your details on file and may contact you if additional matching opportunities arise during the current program cycle.
What happens if I don't get selected as a mentee?
Limited spots are available for this exclusive opportunity. If your application isn't matched we encourage you to reapply next round.
Program benefits
What CPD points can I earn?
Both mentors and mentees earn 18 CPD points (3 points per hour) for program participation.
Why is mentoring valuable?
Mentoring relationships provide encouragement, constructive feedback, openness, mutual trust, and respect. They offer essential knowledge for both professional and personal success through shared learning experiences.
Support and contact
What support is provided during the program?
This is a mentee led initiative. The Institute helps facilitate matches and will provide resources to get you started.
