Naomi Edwards - Chair
Chair, Spirit Super

Naomi is an actuary and a professional company director.  Following an executive career with Trowbridge Consulting and then Deloitte, Naomi became involved with the wider actuarial fields, including acting as adviser to the Australian Greens on various projects and advising a wide group of environmental organisations. She then embarked on a career as a company director, chairing the listed Australian Ethical Investments and sitting on the boards of funds managers, ASX listed companies and superannuation funds. She is currently Chair of Tasplan Super where she has led the fund through three mergers in the last four years.   She joined the Council of the Actuaries’ Institute from January 2020.

Annette King joined the Actuaries Institute board in 2018. She is an experienced actuary, company director, and previously CEO, with over 30 years’ experience in financial services across Asia-Pacific. 

Prior to becoming a non-executive director, Annette had a successful track record as a CEO, CFO and CMO of significant financial institutions, as well as being a founder/entrepreneur. Annette has served large multi-national companies (Swiss Re, AXA, Manulife, Mercer) and fintech companies (AFG, FNZ, Galileo Platforms).  Her focus is on business growth through differentiated client experience, organizational culture and innovation via digital and technology enablement.  In addition to responsibilities in Australia and New Zealand, Annette has lived and worked for 14 years in Asia.

She serves on the boards of Swiss Re, MLC Superannuation/NULIS, Australian Finance Group (ASX: AFG), U Ethical Investors, Galileo Platforms and the Actuaries Institute.  She was previously President of the Life Insurance Association of Singapore, served on the Singapore Actuarial Society and the Hong Kong Advisory Committee for the AICD.  

She is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia, a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, and has a Bachelor of Economics from Macquarie University. She is a member of AICD’s APRA Forum and a member of Chief Executive Women.

Nicolette is a former President of the Actuaries Institute.  She is also a Non-Executive Director and sits on several wealth management boards spanning superannuation, life insurance, technology and health insurance – UniSuper, OnePath Insurance, Class Limited, SuperEd and CBHS Health Fund.

Elayne Grace is CEO of the Actuaries Institute. She was previously Deputy CEO and Head of Public Policy from 2013 – 2017, responsible for the development and implementation of the Institute’s public policy strategy. Elayne has 25 years’ international experience with leading consulting firms and major insurers. She is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors, a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia and of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (UK) and has a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and Finance.

Co-President, Young Actuaries Advisory Board

Jeffrey Chan (FIAA) is the Co-President of the Young Actuaries advisory Board and the President of the Asia YAP. He is a Senior Data Scientist in BCG GAMMA with more than 10 years of consulting experience in data commercialization, customer analytics, applied machine learning and personalization. Outside of work, he is a professional wedding host and have hosted more than 50 weddings.

Ian has had a long career in financial services in Australia, the UK, New Zealand and Hong Kong. He has extensive experience as a regulator, insurance company independent chairman, director and managing director, as well as other senior management roles. He is an actuary by profession and is now a consultant to boards and senior management.

Ian has a deep interest in risk management and risk culture. In recent years, he has had a particular interest in the impact of social attitudes and norms on risks for financial services businesses. He was Actuary of the Year in 2018 and awarded the Gold Medal in 2021 in recognition of more than four decades of outstanding work in the service of the community, the profession, business, and government.

Suzanne Patten has 20 years of experience working as an Actuary in general insurance, and previously 20 years in life insurance.  Suzanne is passionate about what Actuaries can bring to better decision making, through the use of data, understanding of risks and application of Actuarial judgement. She is a member of the General Insurance Practice Committee.

Rob Deutsch - Data Analytics Curator

Rob is the founder of Boxer which creates software for insightful and efficient financial modelling. He is an actuary with experience across analytics, DC & DB superannuation consulting, insurance and product design. Working in both Australia and Japan he’s driven a wide variety of analytics projects to success in a wide variety of fields including retail, forensics, supply chain, M&A, and management reporting.

Jenna is the Head of Reserving at Allianz Australia. With over 13 years of general insurance experience across a variety of roles including valuations, finance transformation, capital and investments management, Jenna is passionate about building great relationships and working to translate complex problems into understandable and actionable insights.  

Hannes Boshoff
Hannes Boshoff - Health Curator
Chief Actuary at HBF Health

Hannes Boshoff is a Fellow of the Actuaries Institute of Australia and it currently the Chief Actuary for HBF Health. Born in South Africa, he completed his actuarial studies with the Institute of Actuaries in London. Prior to his current roles, he was involved in various actuarial roles in the health funding industry in South Africa for 13 years ranging from data quality assurance and analysis to complex modelling and leading actuarial and product development teams. He has a passion for the health ecosystem and sustainable health funding, using the rich data available in the market to drive insights and decisions that benefit consumers. 
Robert Chen

Robert Chen – International Perspectives Curator
Deputy CFO at Taiping Life, China

Robert has 20 years of work experience in the financial services industry spanning Australia, Europe and Asia.  Currently based in Shanghai, China, as the Deputy CFO for Taiping Life. Robert began his career in life insurance consulting, which took him from Australia to UK and Hong Kong.  He spent some time with Fidelity International, a fund manager, before joining Taiping Life in Shanghai in 2010.

Robert is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia and a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in London.  He has served on the International Council Committee and is currently a member of the Asia Sub-committee and plays a key role in the Actuaries Institute’s Asia Strategy.

Douglas 

Douglas Isles – Investment and Wealth Curator
FFA, FIAA, MA Math (Trinity College, Cambridge)

Douglas initially joined Platinum in May 2003 as an investment analyst covering industrials and as primary communicator for advisor presentations. He previously worked for CBA as a product actuary and prior to this as an investment manager for Aegon Asset Management in the UK. Douglas left Platinum in October 2008 to work in Singapore where he helped develop Standard Chartered Bank’s equities broking business.

Douglas rejoined Platinum in February 2013, as Investment Specialist, acting as an intermediary between the investment team and Australia/NZ based advisers. Over time he built a team to support this effort, and since 2017 he has, in addition, been introducing Platinum to US-based investors. Douglas was appointed as Head of Investment in March 2022 and is responsible for the investment team’s process and people. He has been a member of the firm’s Management Committee since 2013.

Jennifer is a non-executive director and actuary. With more than 25 years of corporate and consulting financial services experience, she is an advocate for the insights actuaries can add to a wide variety of issues. She is Convenor of the Actuaries Institute's working group on Covid19, and a member of the Actuaries Institute's working group on Climate Change. In her spare time she writes her popular actuarial blog  

Hoa Bui - Life Insurance Curator

Hoa is a non executive director and an advisor to boards & management of insurance companies and superannuation funds. Until recently, Hoa was a Partner-in-charge at a big four firm for 15 years and held senior roles at AXA and Tower Australia. She acted as appointed actuary for three life insurers at different times, and has a long term interest in disability insurance and industry data collection.

Hoa is active in the profession; she led the Reference product Working Group of the DI task force and was the Actuaries Institute president in 2020. In 2021, she was awarded the inaugural Donna Walker Award for Inspiring Leadership.

Srikar is a Director at the National Disability Insurance Agency with over 10 years of experience in the financial services industry. He encompasses a stakeholder centric approach in influencing and driving desired strategic outcomes for an organisation. His experience spans across Reserving in General Insurance across both direct insurance and reinsurance portfolios, Risk Management and Capital Management across General Insurance, Life Insurance, Wealth and Banking industries. He is currently a member of the Risk Management Practice and Education Committees.

Jason is an experienced business leader with more than 10 years of experience and knowledge in data, pricing analytics and risk management. A professional and pragmatic individual with a proven track record to problem solving and simplifying the complex. With a focus to empower decision making through data driven insights. A well regarded leader, mentor and strategic thinker.

Jason's has the ability to look through the lens of different stakeholders and customers, bridging the gap between using advanced analytics and real world implementation of products that are often very traditional in nature.

Outside of work, Jason is an education faculty member at the Actuaries Institute, a fanatic basketball fan and a foodie. 

Timothy Simon Jenkins

Tim Jenkins – Superannuation Curator

Tim Jenkins is a Partner at Mercer, based in Sydney. He is an experienced superannuation professional, having held senior positions with Mercer, NAB and Rice Warner over a 30-year career.

Tim is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia and has worked predominantly in Australia, but also in New Zealand, Asia and the UK. He specialises in providing advice to superannuation trustees and fund promoters.

Tim is a member of the ASFA SuperFunds editorial committee and is the Convenor of the Actuaries Institute’s Superannuation Practice Committee.
