Mark Wylie

Mark Kennedy Wylie, FIAA

Mr. Wylie
 has been working in the general insurance industry for 20 years; the first 10 in Australia and the last 10 across Asia and the Middle East.  He has held various positions in underwriting, reserving and risk management.  Mark currently leads the P&C Actuarial and Reserving team for Swiss Re in Asia and is based in Hong Kong.  He is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia.

Jeremy Wall, FASHK, FASM, FIAA, FSAS, FSAT
Group Managing Director, JPWALL

Based in Asia for over 15 years, Mr. Wall is experienced in bringing together buyers and sellers, in addition to having provided valuation advice on over 50 mergers and acquisitions in the region. He has reviewed and certified insurance reserves for all the RBC frameworks across the region and has built pricing models for individual insurers and industry-wide tariffs in all lines of business. He is experienced in stress testing, reinsurance optimization and capital allocation using dynamic financial analysis. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia (FIAA) and is a Fellow of the Actuarial Societies of Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Thailand.

George Kau


Kong Hoi Kau, FSA, FASM
Head of Actuarial Services, Takaful Ikhlas Berhad

Mr. Kau is a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and a Fellow of Actuarial Society of Malaysia. He is currently heading the actuarial services division of Takaful Ikhlas Berhad in Malaysia. 

He started his career in Malaysia. He has more than 14 years of actuarial services and financial reporting experiences in conventional insurance business across major international and domestic insurers in Asia Pacific countries.

He joined Takaful Ikhlas Berhad as the head of actuarial services. His main responsibility is to certify the valuation of actuarial and other certificate liabilities in accordance with the generally accepted actuarial principles and practices.
 

Rob Malattia, FASHK, FASM, FIA, FSAS, FSAT
Director, General Insurance, South East Asia, Willis Towers Watson


Mr. Malattia joined Towers Watson in April 2013. Prior to joining Towers Watson, he worked for two primary global insurance companies in a number of senior actuarial roles in London and Italy. 

He brings almost 15 years of experience in the insurance industry and he has provided support and consultancy services to insurance companies in over 20 countries worldwide.

He has performed a wide range of actuarial services from reserving and pricing to capital optimization and enterprise risk management. Mr. Malattia’s key specialty is ratemaking, portfolio management, product design and usage-based insurance.

He is a regular speaker at seminars, conferences and professional events in Asia.

Mr. Malattia is Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries in the UK, Singapore Actuarial Society, Actuarial Society of Malaysia, Actuarial Society of Thailand and Actuarial Society of Hong Kong. He holds a master’s degree in insurance and risk management.

 




Yao Wang, FCAS
General Manager, General Insurance, China, Willis Towers Watson


Mr. Yao is general manager of non-life consulting in China. He joined Towers Watson in 2012.

Prior to joining Towers Watson, Mr. Yao was the group manager of product research and development in Mercury Insurance Group. Before that, he was a product development manager at Progressive. He also worked at SPSS (now part of IBM) on statistical software development.

Yao has fifteen years of experience in property and casualty insurance product pricing and general management and applications of predictive modeling and statistical analysis in insurance areas including underwriting, claims and marketing, as well as other industries.

Yao’s main areas of expertise include:
• Reserve adequacy analysis;
• Premium adequacy analysis and rate indication;
• Product design, development, pricing and management, and underwriting process automation and optimization; 
• Developing and executing strategies for establishing and growing direct channel;
• Analyzing agents behavior, evaluating agent incentive program, strategizing effective agent appointment program; and
• Enterprise data warehouse design and creation that enables effective business analytics.

Yao has a Ph.D. in statistics from University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Arts in mathematics from Peking University. Yao is a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society.

 


David Piesse 
Head of Asia Pacific, Ultimate Risk Solutions


David Piesse is the chief risk officer and advisory board member of Guardtime, which is establishing standards in governance and compliance for cyber security and data integrity. He is establishing the global insurance blueprint and involved in all aspects of cyber liability. He is a frequent speaker at cyber conference worldwide. He addresses cyber liability and the use of blockchain technology for data centric security. 

David Piesse is the chairman of the International Insurance Society Ambassador (IIS) for Asia Pacific reporting to New York Headquarters. The IIS is the only truly Global Insurance Society in the world promoting new risk strategies and advice from the insurance industry. 

David Piesse is the managing director Asia Pacific for Ultimate Risk Solutions (URS), an independent financial modeling company. He is charge of looking after the URS clients, marketing in the region and providing business models for clients in reinsurance strategies, portfolio optimization, surplus allocation, asset liability matching, catastrophe risk, market risk, operational and underwriting risk within an enterprise risk management platform. 

David Piesse is a member of the Chartered Insurance Institute and the British Computer Society. He spoke in 2015 at the AAC meeting in Bangkok and Society of Actuaries in South Korea.

 


Kun Cheng
Assistant Vice President, Analytics, Peak Reinsurance Company


Mr. Cheng is assistant vice president, analytics for Peak Re, responsible for catastrophe modelling, treaty pricing, accumulation control, as well as research and development. His current research projects include innovative catastrophe risk management products, advanced risk monitoring products, and enterprise risk management.

Prior to joining Peak Re, Mr. Cheng was a natural hazard analyst at Aon Benfield where he helped Chinese clients to understand and manage catastrophe risks. He has gained in-depth understanding of various catastrophe models including RMS, AIR, EQE and IF during his time of with the firm.

Mr. Cheng received his master’s degree in geomatics at the Department of Land Surveying and geo-informatics from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He then continued with various research projects, such as digital terrain modelling, airborne LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) data analyzing, and Remote Sensing based BVOC (Biogenic Volatile Organic Compound) monitoring before he ventured into the reinsurance industry.

 

 

Karsten Wantia, ASAS, DAV
Practice Leader Asia Pacific, Willis Towers Watson


Mr. Wantia is currently leading the GI insurance consulting practice for Willis Towers Watson in Asia Pacific and is based in Singapore. Before that, he consulted for eight years and worked in the industry for five years out of Germany and Australia (Allianz, EMB and Towers Watson). 

He is a member of the German and Singaporean Actuarial associations. His main areas of actuarial work include capital modeling and capital management, Solvency II, Swiss Solvency Test and M&A and reserving. He has lead a large number of projects for GI client companies of all sizes and specialties to prepare for Solvency II, specifically designing, implementing and rolling out internal models.
