CAP System Requirements

The CAP Virtual Course will be held online via the Zoom Meeting application. More details will be updated and provided closer to the Virtual Course date.

It is recommended that students join using a computer or laptop. Joining with a mobile and tablet IS NOT RECOMMENDED, as you are not able to download any documents that are distributed live during the session.

Zoom Application

If you have not done so already, you will need to download the Zoom application on your computer, laptop or mobile device. You can download the Zoom app from the Download Centre. Otherwise, you will be prompted to download and install Zoom when you click a join link. You can also join a test meeting to familiarise yourself with Zoom.

To connect to audio for the CAP Virtual Course you can use your computer or phone for audio. It's best to connect audio through your computer (default setting), however, if you're not getting sound then dial in using your phone. Please see the “join by phone” section in the email sent to you and dial the number with the appropriate area code. The call will prompt you to enter the meeting ID in the email. When prompted for a participant ID press the hash key.

It is recommended that students have the following to join a Zoom Meeting:

  • Use a reliable internet connection.
  • Have a access to a webcam and microphone.
  • Use a computer, laptop or mobile device with a large screen with a good resolution as there will be content shared by the presenters. Joining with a mobile phone or tablet IS NOT RECCOMMENDED, as you are not able to download any documents that are distributed live during the session.
  • Check that your device allows access to Zoom meeting before the course.

Joining the CAP Virtual Sessions

Prior to the CAP Virtual session an email will be sent to you which includes the Zoom link and dial in instructions and a link will be posted on the Learning Management System (LMS).

Please click through the link provided, this should prompt you to enter your full name and email and you will then be able to join the meeting. Please use your full name and email address registered with the Actuaries Institute.

You will be placed in the Zoom waiting room until access to the session has been granted.

At the beginning of the sessions, it is requested that you have your camera and microphones on so you can introduce yourself to the presenters and other participants.

During the sessions you will be requested to join in group discussions, participate in polls and work in break out groups. Your camera and microphone may be muted or unmuted by the presenter when needed or requested. Please mute your microphones if there is background noise coming from your location.
