The Institute of Actuaries of Australia hosted the 17th General Insurance Seminar at the Sheraton Mirage Resort, Gold Coast, Queensland from Sunday 7 to Wednesday 10 November 2010. The seminar theme was Risk and Reward. Papers and presentations are now available on this website. Audio recordings of concurrent sessions and webcasts of all plenary sessions will be available shortly.
In a changing environment where risk and the response to risk continues to evolve, the Australian insurance industry has stood up to the challenge. The GFC has brought about a different perspective on financial risk and both locally and internationally regulators are pondering change. Natural catastrophes continue to challenge the industry – the Black Saturday bushfires in Victoria, the floods in Queensland in 2009 and 2010, and further afield tsunamis, floods and earthquakes. What is next for the general insurance industry? How will it continue to grow and innovate for the benefits of customers and shareholders alike?
