Main Search
The main search box is a 'free text' search. It searches our website and document repository, including presentations and audio files, to provide the best results given the supplied criteria. It searches the entire text of documents as well as title, author etc.
To search for exact phrases put the search text in double quotes. To ensure a specific word is included or excluded from the results prefix the word with ‘+’ or ‘–‘
For example, +Risk –Analysis will yield results containing the word ‘Risk’ but not the word ‘Analysis.’ +Risk +Analysis will yield results where both the words ‘Risk’ and ‘Analysis’ are present. “Risk Analysis” will give results where the phrase Risk Analysis appears. Risk Analysis will include results where either or both words appear anywhere in the document.
Advanced Search
The advanced search function can be used as a search in its own right or it can be used in conjunction with the main search, in which case it effectively filters the results of the main search. This search will only utilise the file information held in our database and does not search the entire document content; this must be kept in mind when using this option.
The available fields are:
- Title - search terms here are applied only to the title of the document or web pages, not their content or other fields.
- Event - this searches only in the document repository for items corresponding to particular event types.
- Year - must be entered as four digits.
- Author - names, both first names and surnames, can be given in any order.
- Format - searches can be restricted to particular formats, e.g. audio files only or website pages only.
- Clear - this clears input from all the fields.
If you have performed a general search e.g. 'Media Effectiveness' and want to filter it by a specific event e.g. 'General Insurance Seminar', then select the event from the Event dropdown list.
