Becoming an Accredited Member

Accredited Members are members who have qualified overseas as actuaries.

Fellows of the Institute of Actuaries (IoA), the Faculty of Actuaries (FoA), the Society of Actuaries (SoA), the Society of Actuaries in Ireland (SAI), the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA), the Actuarial Society of India (ASI), the Actuarial Society of South Africa (ASSA) and the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) may be accepted as Accredited Members of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia if they satisfy the following conditions.

  1. The applicant must have qualified as a Fellow of one of the above mentioned bodies by examination;
  2. The applicant must be a current financial Fellow of one of the above mentioned bodies;
  3. The applicant is required to have been resident and working in Australia for at least six months and to have gained suitable experience in local actuarial practice
  4. The applicant is required to have passed a recognised Professionalism Course within the previous 5 years (or earlier at the discretion of the Council). For this purpose, recognised Professionalism Courses include those of:
    • The Institute of Actuaries of Australia
    • The Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFA)
    • The Society of Actuaries (SoA)
    • The Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS)
    • The Actuarial Society of South Africa (ASSA)
    • Institute of Actuaries of India (IAI)
    • The Society of Actuaries of Ireland (SAI)
    • The Canadian Institute of Actuaries (CIA)
    • The New Zealand Society of Actuaries
  5. one of the Fellows signing the nomination form must be satisfied that the applicant understands the Code of Professional Conduct of the Institute of Actuaries of Australia.
